Give yourself a break

So a couple weeks ago, I had one of those moments. I honestly don’t remember what got me so upset, but my husband had been out of town for days, I had forgotten something for the Bub’s school, I had overextended myself blog-wise and I was just feeling like a bad mom and wife in general. Just one of those days.

I was talking to myself (I do that a lot) and lamenting all the things I had done wrong that day and really just beating myself up about it. And then I started crying (just great), which is not something I do often.

So I’m standing in the middle of the bedroom, crying, and I it just hit me – I told myself (yes…out loud) to just give myself a break.

My husband was gone and during the fall that was a common occurrence (he’s retired from teaching music but as busy as ever with other stuff) and you know what – like always, I was handling things by myself and doing a decent job of it. I needed to give myself a break.

This blog is now my “job” and I love it so dang much, but there are times that it gets stressful. And then I beat myself up for even thinking that this perfectly perfect job is stressful sometimes. Like that means I’m not grateful for it. But I need to give myself a break. Every job has stress.

And although I don’t feel like a bad mom often, I do hate when I don’t stay on top of things for my son. But in the end, he’s an incredibly happy, well adjusted kid. And that night he went to bed content and without a care in the world, and that is all that matters to me at the end of the day.

I thought about all of us women – I believe the men in our lives stress just as much (you may not realize it but they do), but I think we expect every aspect of what we do to be pretty darn perfect, and our men take it a little easier on themselves.

So, as we roll into the holiday season I wanted to remind you all to GIVE YOURSELF A BREAK.

The past two years I’ve not had time to write out and send Christmas cards:

It is STUPID how bad that makes me feel. Like I failed at Christmas.

I didn’t. Santa still came. Joy was had. My friends still know we exist. :)

I always like to hand write my cards – but this year maybe I’ll print out address labels and do the photo card. Or not. Either way, life will go on.

I LOVE holiday traditions but they can get out of hand. There’s only so much time in the day people! So our Elf doesn’t get into crazy antics (although I enjoy seeing what he does at other houses):

Elf on the Shelf, my nemesis

And sometimes…sometimes, he stays in the same spot two (three!) nights in a row. Mama has stuff to do. I may not be able to pull that off this year though, the boy is getting older and smarter. (Last year was stretching it.)

I always have grand plans for baking and cooking and trying new recipes and entertaining like a BOSS…but then the day of the party comes and I end up throwing together my cheater cookies that are just as yummy and festive:

Easiest Christmas cookies, ever

And the elaborate recipe I was going to try out ends up being frozen meatballs in the slow cooker.

But you know what? Who cares?? People are fed and it’s good. Give yourself a break.

This is just a friendly reminder – think of me as the tiny voice in your head this holiday season. Take care of yourself. Try to take it easy. Cut yourself some slack. It will be wonderful, even if the Elf on the Shelf actually stays on the shelf. ;)

Winner and birthday quiz answers

Sarah Chris bday party

Well thanks so much for joining in on the birthday fun with us last week. Some of you did really well! Some of you, notsomuch. But we still love you.

We’ve got a winner! For that name and the answers to my quiz questions, read on:

Chris is freaked out by The Wizard of Oz and can barely watch it.

TRUE! Man you guys are good, most of you got this one. And I know, what the heck, an American classic! Although the monkeys still freak me out to this day too. Shiver.

Sarah and her husband have been married 18 years.

FALSE! My hubby and I have known each other for 21 years but Chris and her hubby are the ones who’ve been married that long. The answers on that one were pretty split down the middle.

Chris and Sarah’s sons have the same middle name.

FALSE! Stumped ya, bahaha! Most of you thought that one was true. Although I had a moment of panic and had to double check with Chris after I used that question. :)

Sarah loved high school more than college.

TRUE! Yeah, totally used this one last year. Told you I was boring. But even so most of you thought it was false. I LOVED high school. So easy breezy fun. College was were I worked my behind off. Still fun of course, but the high school days were my favorite.

Chris hates attending weddings.

FALSE! So apparently I used this one before too? I don’t remember this. My mind is obviously going. This one was neck and neck! I guess “hate” is a strong word but attending weddings really isn’t my favorite thing. I know, what’s wrong with me?? I should say that once I’m there and watching the bride coming down the aisle and crying and all, I’m enjoying myself. But by the reception I’m ready to get on home. I’m sure I’ll get tons of invites now. ;)

We’re in trouble next year cause I seriously can’t think of any more questions for another quiz. I guess I have a whole year, it’s a good thing! You can see the answers Chris’s questions here.

The winner of our $100 Target card is Marita who got 6 out of ten right. Congrats Marita, I’ll be emailing you and sending out your gift card this week! :)

I’m letting the HomeGoods giveaway run through the weekend so be sure to check that out if you haven’t yet. Hope you’re having a great weekend!!

Justa Thrifty Birthday

Well it’s here. The day you’ve been waiting for all week…my BIRTHDAY! Have I talked about it enough yet? ;) Thing is, I firmly believe, especially as we get…ahem…older, that we shouldn't ignore birthdays. We should celebrate them and enjoy and take advantage of a day that can be all about what YOU want to do. Or in this case…me.

All that being said I really don’t run around all week with arms flailing telling everyone it’s my birthday. I save that for you all here on the blog. ;)

Blogging has been a blessing in my life for more reasons than I can count, but one of the biggies right up there at the top is my friend Chris. She’s truly a best friend now – I have a few of them and they all come from different times of my life. This girl is from this “season.” Otherwise known as the OLD season.

She’s a blogger, teacher, momma, wife and to top it all off, an amazing decorator. I want to move in to her house:

white house black shutters

Amazing right? I know.

This bathroom is one of my favorites: black vanity bathroom

And of course her daughter’s room is so fun and sweet:

blue and pink girls room

The thing is, we have the same birthday. Sisters from another mother, in so many ways! But she’s 40 today (choke, gah, cough) and I’m only 38. Don’t worry Justa, age ain’t nothin’ but a number. As far as you know.

So today, just like last year, we celebrate by sharing how weird, yet boring we are:

Sarah Chris bday party

Seriously, it took us like two months to come up with ten (somewhat interesting) things about ourselves. Coming up with ten last year hurt our brains so doing it again was nearly impossible.

The whole somewhat interesting part is relative, but we did come up with some. This year they’re true/false so even easier! We aim to please.

The person who gets the most/all right wins $100 to Tarjay from us:

TargetLogo_thumb

I know…lots of giveaways on the blog this week. It’s my birthday so I can.

Just answer these five questions here and then visit her place and answer five more. We’ll pick a winner at the end of the week. Here’s the details:

Take the quiz here (remember your score!)
Take the other half of the quiz at Justa’s site here.
When you finish with her quiz, leave your score (out of 10) in the comments section of her blog. That will count as your entry for the giveaway.

Have fun and be sure to tell Chris hi for me! And remind her how old she is while you’re at it.

Thanks for all the birthday wishes all week, I really do appreciate it. You guys are so wonderful!

Weekend in the woods

Hello and welcome to a new week! Hope you had a lovely weekend! I didn’t get anything done and it. was. awesome. No projects, no cleaning, no decluttering, no organizing – just being lazy and hanging with my family and it was a welcome change.

I’ve mentioned a few times that I have a large family – both extended and immediate. I have six sisters and brothers (a mix of full, half and step) and with the addition of some grandkids now, the our group is BIG. It gets harder every year to get together for holidays because there are so many of us now. :)

Family means everything to all of us I’m sure, but my Dad is one of those people who is truly bursting with joy when his family is around. So every year now he and my stepmom rent a cabin so we can all get together and have a fun fall weekend with just family.

This year we had an amazing view:

Lake Monroe Indiana

It’s a little early for the leaves to change but you can see little explosions of color starting to happen. :) We were near Lake Monroe in Bloomington, Indiana and if you are nearby it is an amazing time of year to visit.

I didn’t get many pics inside our cabin because I was usually either eating or laying around and I was just too lazy, honestly. (It was fantastic.) It was a big place with plenty of room for all of us – not overly cabin-like, but rustic.

Saturday we rented a double decker pontoon boat and took off for the afternoon. This was especially fun for me because every weekend growing up was spent on this lake with my Mom and Dad. Most of my memories as a child (up till about seven years old or so) were camping and then hanging on that lake in our teeny tiny metal boat. There was room for the three of us and that’s about it. ;)

I’ve only been back to this lake as an adult a few times so it was special to be there again, especially with Dad. As a child I remember thinking the rocky shores were so beautiful and I was still taken with them as an adult:

Lake Monroe shore

Some people aren’t lake swimmers – are you? My husband is not – I think it freaks him out. :) Even I was a little hesitant at first, but then Dad and the siblings started jumping in and I finally did the same…and then you couldn’t get me out:

I’m in the middle with my boy. :) My son is so like me when it comes to things like this. We watch and take it in for awhile…then we do it and love it and you’ll have to drag us away. I was SO proud of him for getting in to swim (he’d never swam in a lake). The boy is a FISH.

When you sit on the life jacket just right you can just hang out there forever…it’s bliss. ;) The water was chilly at first but within minutes we’d get used to it and it was perfect.

I don’t share many pics of my son on the blog but I am so in love with this one:

:)

He drove the boat with Grandpa pretty much the entire time. Like a boss. ;)

On Sunday it was raining and chilly (a perfect fall day in my opinion) and we took the long way home through Nashville, Indiana and Brown County:

Brown County IN

Downtown Nashville is a treasure. A quaint little area with shops, wonderful food and fun stuff to do:

Nashville IN

And of course this is the BEST time of year to visit!

It was SO lovely – the rain made everything smell amazing and the mums were popping:

Nashville Indiana fall

Every single shop and restaurant is decked out for fall and it’s just gorgeous:

Nashville Indiana

We also stopped at a roadside pumpkin patch on the way out of town:

pumpkin patch

We saved the regular pumpkins for when we go to pick them at the local patch but got a bunch of really unique ones here. I’ve never seen a selection of gourds and pumpkins like they had!:

nashville pumpkin patch

I was giddy, I must say. It was just a lovely weekend all around.

I am so blessed for so many reasons, but one of the biggest is that I am a part of my big beautiful family. Thanks to Dad for forcing us to hang out together at least once a year. ;)

Have you been to southern Indiana in the fall? Do you have a favorite spot near you that you like to visit this time of year?

Hope your weekend was wonderful too – this week I’ll be sharing more fall-inspired posts as we continue our parties again tomorrow! See you then!

House happy

Hey hey all! Good Friday to you! What do you have planned this weekend? Not too much here – I’m trying to convince my sis to take a trip to IKEA with me at some point. Whoot!

It’s been awhile since I’ve done one of these posts so I thought it was about that time. I love sharing goings on from Pinterest, Facebook and Instagram and around the house every once and a while.

A few days ago I was downtown Indy for lunch with friends and stopped by one of my very favorite spots, Midland Arts and Antiques:

midland arts and antiques

It’s probably been at least six months since I’ve been in, maybe even a year? Wow, the prices have gone up a good amount. But the fun of it for me is the search (and there’s a LOT to search there), so I had fun just walking around.

I found a couple things I loved but couldn’t figure out where I would put them, so I left empty handed. The next day I couldn’t stop thinking about them and figured out a spot for both, so I went back. ;)

This old Japanese glass float was one of them. I LOVE these things and this is by far the biggest I’ve found:

japanese float

I’m rearranging these shelves a bit but I think this will stay on here. I LOVE.

I also stopped by the Habitat Restore while I was down there and as I said on Instagram, it’s where all the brass fixtures go to live:

habitat restore lights

See all those lamp shades? A hotel must have cleared out of brass wall sconces cause there were TONS. I picked up two and will spray paint them – who doesn’t love a wall sconce? AND they were only $4 each! Walk don’t run my fellow Indy folks!

Speaking of light fixtures – do you like the look of a lamp on a kitchen counter? I do. I found this little lamp at Target a few months ago and I love it in our kitchen:

lamp on kitchen counter

Now I’m on a search for a little one for our laundry room too. I love little bits of low light like this! Now that the days are getting shorter again I’ll be using them quite a bit.

So have you been to JC Penney’s lately? I stopped in a couple months ago and was a little surprised with what I found:

JCP decoreSUPER cute. It wasn’t the most inexpensive stuff I’ve found, but it was different and fun and unique. Loved it. Have you been in lately? Do you know if this line goes on sale? They have a whole Martha Stewart party section that was fun to look through too.

I’ve continued my decluttering rampage and found all of these tools that made it into our dresser in the foyer:

tools

I keep some tools in there for easy access, and one of the knobs on a drawer has broken twice – a sure sign I have too much CRAP in there. These were all in that one (little) drawer. Obviously I’m too lazy to walk out the garage. :)

And that tile? I’m getting up the courage to tear it out soon. It is going to be a HUGE mess. Trying to psych myself up.

By the way, this mess is what happens when you declutter rooms in your house and ignore the other ones:

my house

Seriously, who am I kidding? It’s like this all the time. I shared this on Facebook and you all made me feel very normal, thank you for that. ;)

I went in to Bath and Body Works a few weeks ago to get a gift for a friend and stuffed this candle in my face a few times:

leaves bath and body

The leaves scent of theirs is my absolute favorite. I pulled out my candle and smelly stuff from last year and my house smells heavenly now.

I pinned this gorgeous vignette my friend Myra created and it has me so excited for fall decorating:

fall vignette

She did SUCH a lovely job on this! I love the green desk with the painted lamp with all the textures – it’s just a beautiful spot right?

And speaking of Pinterest, I shared this one on Facebook a few weeks ago too:

pinterest food ecard

The truth, right? I mean, who doesn’t love a good PB&J though? One of those and some salty chips – that’s the lunch of champions right there.

Hope you have a great weekend! We may go do some apple picking tomorrow – let the fall festivities begin!!

Best week ever!

Good Monday to you all! Wow, it’s been a total whirlwind of a week! I’m not sure I’ve ever packed more into seven days in my life.

Bear with me as I share a little bit of it with you today – it’s been an wonderful, overwhelming, lovely week and it really couldn’t have gone much better!

First up – Haven 2013! For those of you who don’t know, Haven is a conference dedicated to DIY and decor bloggers specifically. It’s the first of it’s kind because we (the team) knew there was a need for it – and a few years ago we decided it was time to make it happen!

This was our second year and it was even better than the first!:

Haven confererence

This is about half the group – all together we had about 450 attendees (that includes sponsors) so it was much bigger than last year. I’m not sure we’ll go too much bigger because we love the feel of this size – we still want everyone to feel like they have a chance to meet most everyone.

It was just a great week, really. We were just so happy with how it all turned out and are all so thrilled and humbled by it all! There was a lot of learning – I have a HUGE to do list written down – but most of all it’s just so amazing to hang out with people who totally get what you do.

We goofed around plenty:

It’s hard not to with these ladies. I laughed, a LOT. ;)

But most of all, like always, I walked away having learned so much from just chatting with other bloggers throughout the week. I was so happy to see old friends:

Haven Conference

And meet plenty of new ones, even though I’ve “known” them for years:

blogging conference haven conference

As always, I didn’t get nearly enough pictures. I know took one with many of you and I’d love a copy! (Or we have a 2013 Flickr account going, so you can load them there!)

It was an honor to have been a part of it again this year and to work with some amazing women: Haven conference planning team

Our event planner, Kristin, isn’t in that pic but she is a rock star – there is NO way we could do this without her.

Next year’s conference is already booked for July in Atlanta! We’ll share details soon. :)

So I got home from the conference, slept for a few hours and then moved on to the next adventure…the NKOTB concert:

I know I’m a little teensy bit biased, but DANG, they put on a great show! I was exhausted just from attending.

This time they were joined by Boys to Men (they were fantastic!) and 98 Degrees and the place was packed!:

It is absolutely electric. And LOUD. Grown women can SCREAM.

My hubby’s cousin hooked us up with some incredible seats – six rows off the floor:

NKOTB tour

We had one of the best views there! Excuse my Farah hair by the way. I’m bringing the 70’s back. Apparently.

Yet again, I came home, got a few hours of sleep and then this morning we were up bright and early for a very special appointment.

Today we learned we’ll soon have a grandson. :) Yes, I’m going to be a grandma – my stepdaughter (23) is due in December and we found out this morning it’s a boy. It was very emotional and sweet and they had a room full of family and friends there to find out the big news. Our son is THRILLED. :)

We are just so happy she and the baby are healthy and doing well.  I haven’t mentioned it yet just because I kind of feel like this is their story to tell, not mine. I will of course share more as we get closer to the due date and will most likely share a few pics over time, but I want to respect their privacy and desires too.

I can’t wait to meet this sweet boy!!

So, yes, I think I will set some kind of record as the youngest grandma ever. Especially being 27 and all. Or something.

Well…there’s my week in a nutshell. See, a little crazy huh? But every bit of it makes me so incredibly thankful – I am so grateful for this life I live. I am a lucky woman. A lucky woman who is off to take a nap for six hours or so. ;)

When money is tight

I don’t know about you, but there have been times in my life when money was T.I.G.H.T. I mean, on the floor of the car, reaching under the seats, trying to find a dollar in change to get enough gas to get me home or to work. (That’s when gas was cheap!) ;)

I learned a few BIG things over those years – one, not having money is one of the scariest, most unsettling feelings ever. It makes you feel completely out of control of your life. But I realized there were certain things I could do that would make me feel like I had control again and doing those things would help tremendously.

Although things are different for me now, there are certainly still times when cash is low – we are adjusting to a definite change since my hubby has retired from teaching. We planned for it and know things will even out so it’s not a scary situation, but it’s easy for those feelings of fear creep back in. It’s silly because my situation is completely different from years ago, but when the bank account goes low and the budget is spent for the month, I can’t help but feel that again, just a little. I will for as long as I live – you just don’t forget that feeling. :)

There are a few things that I’ve always done at times like that – and each of them gives me a sense of having control over my life. The first one may sound a little unusual – but it’s always worked for me.

I clean my car. :)

Now, my car is the thorn in my organizational side. It is just a space that easily gets messy and full of STUFF and I let it get out of control all. the. time. My husband does too. Maybe it’s the creative side of us? ;)

car disaster

Back in the day it was my mom’s car that I would do this with, but I would gather up change from around the house (or the car!) and drive to the car wash place and use their vacuum. I know you can do this at home and save a couple bucks, but for me it’s always getting out and driving there that helps too. When you don’t have any cash you’re not getting out as much so the drive was usually much needed.

I did this the other day and it ALWAYS makes me feel better – just throwing trash away, vacuuming the whole thing – it seriously works! If you are extra ambitious you can get even more detailed with it and maybe clean the outside (at home with the hose). But I’m rarely that good. ;)

It’s just a little thing but to this day it makes me feel better!

Depending on the state of your car, the next one goes hand in hand, and it’s to purge. Or decrapify as I like to say. If you’re like me you’re not always totally on top of stuff around the house when you’re feeling down about something. And again…I think what’s most important when money is tight is to feel like you have control over your home and life.

Going through the closets, the cabinets, the clothes and losing a few pounds of stuff feels SO GOOD. I cannot stress how amazing it feels when you see a pile ready to go out the door:

purging stuff out of the house

Maybe this is just me? All I know is it makes me feel so accomplished, so light and ready to conquer the world.

I wrote a post years ago about what to do with all that stuff too – you may just make some cash from that pile! I break it down into a few different areas – consignment, donation and recycling.

And finally, one that goes hand in hand with purging – organizing what’s left. Like decluttering, it won’t cost you anything! I mean, of course you can always add pretty baskets or organization, but most of the time just reassessing what you already have is enough:

messy coat closet organized coat closet

You can get creative with scrap wood, shoe or diaper boxes – whatever! Make labels with your printer or paint chips or scrapbook paper – it doesn’t have to be fancy!

Next month my plan is to get the house decluttered once again! I want to get it done before school gets going in full gear and before the birthdays and holidays later this year. I’m so motivated right now – I don’t know why but I feel like it’s spring instead of late(ish) summer. I have this desire to clean out and organize the whole house!

So what do you do when funds are low? Do you have any go to projects like my car clean out? Like I mentioned, I learned over the years that, for me, the way to fight the fear that comes with financial stress is to figure out something that makes me feel like I have power over my life – and all of these things do that for me, whether money is tight or not!

Have a GREAT weekend!!

Roughing it

Hello everybody! Hope you had a lovely weekend! We just got home from a little family excursion up north. We took off late last Tuesday for a four day RV trip through Illinois, Wisconsin and Minnesota. This is our second RV trip -- we took our first one a couple summers ago and it’s safe to say we’re hooked. :)

RVing is SO fun – this time we rented a smaller one (the first time we got a huge class A and this time it was a smaller class C). The smaller one was still plenty big and we all loved it. (And I could drive it no problem – bonus.)

This trip was all fun for the kiddo and me, but some work for the hubs since we were traveling around with the drum corp he works with. Back in our old days when he and I were dating we would take off on these kinds of trips often in the summer. I love doing the same with our boy. :)

We love RVing because we can travel at our own pace, stop when we want and still have plenty of space to stretch out as we go. We saw some pretty countryside in Illinois on the first day:

illinois countryside

While my husband worked with the corp the kiddo and I explored the cute little town of Metamora, IL – and ended up spending most of the afternoon at their awesome public pool:

It took a few hours, but right before we left the Bub got up the courage to go down that slide and LOVED. IT. :)

When we RV (or when we drive anywhere really), we like to hit up local restaurants, shops…and apparently pools. It was just by accident we happened on that and it was a perfect way to spend a summer afternoon.

The next day we headed to our stop for a couple days – La Crosse, Wisconsin. The Bub and I did some shopping at some local antique stores:

la crosse wisconsin

I didn’t find anything I had to have, but I did come across a huge selection of these glasses that totally took me back:

old hardees glasses smurfs

Man, I was so close to getting a few of them. I still kinda wish I had. They had all of the ones I remembered from my childhood – Alvin and the Chipmunks, the Muppets, E.T. It was such a fun blast from the past. :)

And of course, when Mama saw the HomeGoods sign I pulled that RV over faster than you can say, well…HomeGoods:

We actually came across an awesome find there – I’ve dreamed of one of these for our basement for years:

standing popcorn machine

We both freaked when we saw it – the bonus was that it was $70 cheaper than what I’ve found online. (It was missing a couple measuring cups, no biggie.) Just another reason I love traveling in an RV – plenty of room to take the treasures home. (And I’m sure it was a sight seeing me loading this thing into the big rig.)

I was so tempted to use it one night on the RV, but we didn’t have the popcorn or oil, so we waited till we got home. I have to say, I think it made better popcorn than my WhirleyPop! That’s saying a lot cause I adore my WhirleyPop people. (The popcorn from the machine was much crisper, if that makes any sense.)

Anyhoo – that was our best find on the trip. :) We saw a good share of drum corp rehearsals while there, with the backdrop of the beautiful Wisconsin hills:

And one of the highlights for me at least was the cauuute cabin we stayed in:

rustic cabin in the woods

This was at an RV park that had cabins, so we were able took hook up the RV and still camp out inside that night.

It was so totally precious:

rustic cabin in the woods

A few of you on Instagram wanted to see the inside so I made sure to take a few pics before we left. It was very rustic, but had all of the modern conveniences you could need (including air!).

It had a cute little bunk room that would sleep at least four and a bathroom with all the basics:

rustic cabin bunks rustic cabin bathroom

The main part of the cabin was one big room with a kitchenette:

rustic cabin interior rustic cabin

And another bed with trundle:

rustic log cabin

And a TV!! Glorious TV! We didn’t have it at all on the trip otherwise, and I actually really didn’t miss it. But it was nice to have while we were there. We only ended up turning it on a couple times though – it was nice to disconnect for the most part.

They had everything you could need while there – toiletries, dishes, cookware. It was great! I drank my wine out of a coffee cup:

Ha!! Told you…rough.

My favorite parts of the cabin were the ceiling:

rustic cabin ceiling

The view:

We were perched right at the edge of a cliff in the woods– I thought we had the best cabin there. :)

And the AWESOME screened in porch:

cabin with screened porch

Usually when we travel to Wisconsin or Minnesota the mosquitoes are horrible this time of year – but this time the temps and bugs were both great! Low temps and very few bugs.

Then it was time to head on, this time to beautiful Minnesota:

Minnesota lakes

We stayed in the RV that night and heard the Kenny Chesney concert nearby. :) The weather was PERFECT…at least till later when a crazy long storm came through. Pouring down rain hitting a metal roof for three hours straight doesn’t really make for a great night’s sleep. :)

The next day we spent a few hours at the Mall of America:

Mall of America

The hubby and I had been briefly years ago, and this time we were excited to take the Bub to see it. All he cared about was the Lego store, of course. And they were having a huge Lego event throughout the mall all weekend – perfect timing!

We ended up heading home early so didn’t get to do all the rides and stuff – we definitely want to go back!

What a fun, relaxing trip! I loved having all of my boys to myself for all that time:

It was just lovely all around.

I love that we’re doing these trips with the Bub – growing up I spent every weekend in the summer camping with my parents. We were out on the lake ALL the time. I wish my boy could experience that, but at the same time I’m not sure I want to rough it quite as much as we did back then. :)

RVing is the perfect compromise – you have a safe, comfortable home on wheels, but you also enjoy the best parts of camping – making your meals, sitting by a fire, enjoying the outdoors. We love it!

We looked into buying an RV earlier this year but held off – it may be something we look into next year. I am dreaming of a long trip out west to see all the sites I saw on a girl scout trip as a kid – Mount Rushmore, the Badlands, Old Faithful in Yellowstone Park, Snake River, Jackson Hole. It was an amazing trip that I still remember so well and I want the Bub to see all of those sights as well.

And as much as we love to travel, it is always SO good to come home. When we travel I find I’m so much more appreciative of everything – how lucky we are to take trips like that, how much I love exploring our country, how wonderful it is to come back to our sweet house. We are lucky indeed.

So have you ever been RVing? Did you like it? Did you camp a lot as a kid or do you do it now? I keep hearing the term “glamping” lately – I guess you could call an RV trip that? :) Air conditioning and no bugs – two of my favorite things.

**Here’s the campsite we stayed at in La Crosse for those who asked! :)
